‘I’m a City Changer in Africa’ session at Africities Summit 2012 (3-8 Dec), Dakar

Christine Auclair (Project Leader, World Urban Campaign Dear WUC Partners and Members, Advocacy, Outreach and Communications / External Relations Office / UN-HABITAT) is pleased to inform you that the World Urban Campaign will be present at AFRICITIES 2012 in Dakar early December.

Africities has offered to hold a SPECIAL SESSION entitled ‘I’M A CITY CHANGER IN AFRICA, CHANGE TA VILLE EN AFRIQUE’ where our African partners will participate to debate on the way forward for campaigning in Africa.

Using the Manifesto for Cities as a starting point, they will define the key issues for Africa and articulate the essential messages to be disseminated in order to initiate a real change for the continent. The session will be held on Wednesday 5 December from 4.00 to 6.00 pm at Hotel Meridien President where the Summit is held. The Africities Secretariat has been extremely supportive thanks to Jean-Pierre Elong Mbassi, Secretary General of UCLGA.

Information on the event is already available on the Africities website.

The National Senegalese Forum (FUNSEN) will also launch their national campaign during Africities (‘Change ta Ville / Defar Sema Deuk’). This NATIONAL campaign will be the first one launched in Africa. The launch will be held in Guediawaye, a very vibrant municipality of the Dakar region, on Sunday 2 December, through street events. ENDA, our first partner in the region, with the leadership of Malick Gaye, is playing a very active role in the organisation of the Dakar events.

You are welcome to participate in the Africities session. Please also disseminate the news to your networks.

UN-HABITAT will post all related information on the WUC website under ‘News’.
